Since 1986 I've been visiting the Opal Creek Wilderness, a rare fragment of the ancient rainforest and one of Oregon's most special places. After retiring last year, I began creating a chronicle through different seasons. I hope these few sample images provide you a sense of the transcendental beauty of the waters and the forest. These places are changing, and in future years may no longer exist as we know them today.
My inspiration is the work of Eliot Porter, who pioneered color landscape photography and advocated for truthful recording of nature. His intimate views make you feel as if you are directly experiencing a place.
wow. thank you for the stunning photographs, mike. i love the opal creek images in particular. such an amazing place and you've captured it magnificently. which camera(s) do you most often use?
Amazing......I have added this to my favorites and I don't want to lose touch with you. Much love to you. Laura
Mike, your photos are exquisite; a pleasure to look at; and so precise. I thought you were a photographer but from your note on the listserv maybe you haven't been "out" for long. Anyway, the photos have the look of a professional. Good luck in your new career. Dave
